Query about overgrown vegetation

In terms of liability - you can cut back vegetation which overhangs your land (you have to offer them the cuttings back) but you can't force them to cut if back (whether its a neighbour or the council). We've got a form of cherry tree that overhangs part of our garden and is somewhat annoying in that it drops fruit all over the garden (don't think its edible). The council would never cut it back to stop it overhanging, but if I were to get a pole lopper and take off everything that overhung my garden they couldn't stop me. You can't however go onto their property and cut the tree down completely as that wouldn't be "overhanging".
I'd personally go for the polish, and clean it off at weekends etc - if having it on the windscreen is a pain maybe one of those winter screen covers might solve it. I do sympathise - for years my office parking space was under a tree that did that, and my boss had a similar reaction. I could either put up with it or pay to park elsewhere as the tree was there before I got the job! If its any consolation its a summer problem - once the leaves start to fall you won't get the problem until next spring.Adventure before Dementia!0
