Advice please!

I posted on here a few weeks ago to say that I had phoned the Halifax on their dedicated number querying whether or not I had a claim for PPI on 2 loans and a mortgage. The lady I spoke to told me that there wasnt any showing up on the records she could see but offered to file a claim for me anyway. I asked on here whether I should leave it to them to sort or if I should fill out the template letters on here and do it that way, I have the account numbers for them all but no other details ie the actual policies. The lady told me I would get a confirmation letter within 5 working days, but 2 weeks later I've received nothing so I just called the number again to be told that one of the reference numbers I had doesn't exist and the other one wasn't with Halifax so they couldn't deal with it! Now I'm more than a little peed off as I wasn't told this when I called 2 weeks ago. I'm thinking of just filling out the template letters from here and seeing if I had ppi that way but was wondering if I would need to send the cheque for £10 if I have the account numbers and if so who do I make them out to?!
My hubby and I are pretty sure that at least one of the loans had ppi on them sold to us because my hubby is self employed so we had to have it.. Any advice would be much appreciated.

If you filled out a template letter, what would your complaint reasons be considering you dont even know if you had it (so you cant make comments about the sales process as you cant remember. You cant make allegations of wrongdoing as you cant remember and you cant make allegations of ineligibility as you dont know what you have)

Why dont you find out first if you have PPI before deciding if you should complain. Mortgage is easy is you would see a monthly direct debit to their total mortgage protection plan (which is one of the reasons most mortgage PPI complaints fail). A loan would need you to ask them if you dont keep your own records. Current loans are easy as the records will still exist. Closed loans can get harder as you go back in time as records may no longer exist.

Yes. That is what I meant about using the template letter.. to get all the account details to find out if we did pay PPI.

As far as having a reason to claim-I don't recall the PPI being explained to us,only that we HAD to have it as my hubby is self employed.

I have to say I don't appreciate the way you replied to my post,I was merely after some friendly advice not a telling off for not keeping my records up to date. Thanks anyway

Halifax's mortgage PPI covers self employed. I dont know about their loan PPI. The fact you dont recall does not make it mis-sold. However, once you find out if you had it or not then you can look at your potential reasons for complaint and hopefully have something stronger as a reason (loan PPI complaints are easy but mortgage PPI complaints are mostly rejected by both lender and FOS)

I dont see anywhere in my post where I told you off for not keeping your records up to date.

The template letter for the data subject access request costing £10 does not instigate any complaint. It just gets them to send you what records they retain on you. That will be what you need to do next.
