Over payment of Standing orders
Options
Hi, this is my first post. I pay my Electric via standing order. At present I am £389.74 in credit. I pay £35.00 every two weeks and this has built up. When I called for refund they would only refund £140. I was under the impression that they had to refund everything over £100.00 and leave the rest. Can I get £300.00 back?

Welcome to the forum.
You don't say which company?
Is that £389.74 credit on the latest bill?
You will need to be in credit in summer in order to cope with the higher winter bills. Presumably your company calculate that if you are refunded everything over £100 your £35 monthly will not be sufficient.
As far as I am aware there is no general ruling that all credit balances over £100 must be refunded.0 -
Just cancel the standing order for a few months0

Then you'll get a big bill at the end of winter because you will be in arrears. I wouldn't have thought that £70 a month was an unreasonable payment over a year = £840. If you use less energy than that then perhaps you should get a refund but I'm sure you don't want to get stuffed with a ginormous bill in January or March. You need to work out what you use over the year, not just the summerNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
