she could get a young person's railcard which would work on things like travelcards, but only after 9.30am. might be worth it for her to get home to visit more cheaply though!

Most London colleges issue Student Travel Cards (cost about £5) which allow 30% discount on tubes, buses, light railway etc. You could contact St Martin's and see if they do so. The cards are normally made available during Fresher's Week.

You can get a student Oyster card - you have to go and get a form from the Registry department of your uni and fill it in.

The student Oyster photocard is sound advice and as previously stated offers a 30% discount on weekly, monthly or longer period season tickets with Transport for London for a £5 joining fee.

If that avenue isn't available to you definitely look at the regular season tickets anyway. It's also worth investigating the regular Oyster card as well which saves money on regular cash fares - might be a cheaper option if she doesn't need to travel to college every day.

My sister is currently at Central Saint Martins (in her first year). Through the college she received a student Oyster card at reduced cost, it's still costly but you can use it for most of London.

She's also found that taking the bus is more direct and quicker than the tube (also easier to transport her art/textiles work too!), so that might be worth noting :).

Anyway, hope she enjoys it, my sister is loving London!
