Good Morning Folks

I want to do some home based work on my desktop which requires the use of a microphone. . However, the error message - Please plug in a microphone.

Could someone be kind enough to tell me how I do that?

Thanks

Plug a microphone in to the pink 3.5" socket at the back of the machine.

An example pic off the web...

    Hi Folks

    Many thanks for you help.

I'm not very tech minded, but I presume I will need to buy a separate microphone to plug into the back of the machine? Is there a standard size that fits all or does it depend on the make/model of the machine?

    Thanks

By the way, mehera, if you can't help then please don't post sarcastic remarks.

Do you have a webcam? If yes, it will almost certainly have a built-in mic.

You seriously aren't telling me that you dont know where the microphone socket is!!!!

Nothing wrong with making silly remarks... the mistake was not to include some prudent information with it. Otherwise it just qualifies as Trolling.

All microphones for PC and Laptops will have the same fitting. But you'll need one for PC, as laptop models tend to have shorter leads.

If you have a Pound shop in your town, they may have a Headset/microphone instore. It's where I bought mine. :)

This is what I have, but mine cost £1.

You'll probably also need working set of speakers to go with your new mike?
If this is for Skype or similar, then just get a webcam.

Microphone/Headset is better, as using speakers can lead to problems with feedback.

It's not clear (to me, at least!) what you are going to use this microphone for! Are you going to record audio files (of instructions, say)? Are you intending to use something like Skype?

You often get better, and less flippant, answers if you give enough detail in the original post so posters can focus on a specific answer.
