Borrowed a friend's 106 today. Its an M plate 1.1 litre and I amazed to find it had a 4-speed manual gearbox. I dont think I have driven a 4 speed manual for over 15 years.

It got me thinking, whats the newest car that ever had a 4 speed manual box? Can anyone advance on an M reg 106? (I assume its a 1995 car).

Up until 1999, Chrysler were selling the Neon with a 3 speed automatic gearbox - I think I win!

I remember way back in 1994 when my dad chose the spec for his new Merc and was totally fixated with the introduction of a new 5 speed auto.

:) 6 speed seems to be becoming standard on new highish powered cars. Can't wait till I have enough money to move into 6th gear :)

Only other recentish car I would guess might have a 4 speed would be one of the tiny fiats.

Its funny you mention Fiats and 6 speed boxes because I used to have a Punto 1.2 in 1997 which had a 6-speed box!!
