How to insure.Building is mine,contents are sons

My son is living in a flat I own while he is at Uni.I contacted Tesco to get Building +Contents Insurance but could not take out just one policy as the contents are my sons and the building is mine.Do I have to take out two policies or is there companies who will insure me for this.If so can anyone point me towards the best deals.

You can insure buildings in your name but you have to provide full information to the insurance company about your circumstances. IMO you should approach an Insurance broker rather than try online or on the telephone.

You need to insure the Buildings yourself. You maybe able to include your son's contents under your own Contents Insurance at your main residence just by notifying the insurer, although there maybe an additional premium.

Please be aware if you later rent out the property to a third party (i.e. tenant under an AST) you must declare this to your insurer and I would insist that you see the tenant's Contents insurance schedule and that it provides for Tenant Liability cover.
