Hi. My first time on a forum. I was sold a Mortgage Cover Plan from halifax with my mortgage - I was told it was compulsory. Can I make a claim? And on their (Halifax) site they have a FSO claim form - should I use that or MSE template. Please help!

Same form i believe
Is this a tmmp policy from halifax, paid by direct debit each mth? If so bear in mind the policy is like pick and mix and can contain crit illness, life and mtg protection or a combination. Do you deffo have the mtg protection element on it?
Why were u mis sold?
Mtg protection is good IMO0 -
It may well have been depending on when you took it out. (and if it was then that is not a wrong doing).I was sold a Mortgage Cover Plan from halifax with my mortgage - I was told it was compulsory.
What does the policy cover? (life assurance, Critical illness, MPPI or income protection)?
When did you buy it?
Most mortgage insurance complaints are rejected. So, apart from your unprovable verbal allegation which would be easily rejected, do you have any other reasons for complaint?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Mortgage Cover Plan (MCP) was only ever life cover as far as I remember (maybe with critical illness).
Either way it was never PPI, so you can't claim 'PPI mis-sale' on MCP.Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation? :cool:0 -
Thanks everyone. i took it out in October 2000. It covers Life cover which reduces yearly in line with the mortgage, and critical illness cover and waiver of premium (?) cover.
Also, I am surprised that it is legal under discrimination act as it excludes various things such as as a result of HIV/AIDS or drug /alcohol abuse.
Any further advice really welcome0 -
Yep, what you describe is not a PPICashConfused wrote: »Any further advice really welcome0 -

So, what you had was not PPI then. Also, I am surprised that it is legal under discrimination act as it excludes various things such as as a result of HIV/AIDS or drug /alcohol abuse.

insurance is to cover unforeseen events not things that are preventative.CashConfused wrote: »Also, I am surprised that it is legal under discrimination act as it excludes various things such as as a result of HIV/AIDS or drug /alcohol abuse.0 -

What discrimination act?
Are you saying you have HIV or indulge in drug or alcohol abuse?it excludes various things such as as a result of HIV/AIDS
or drug /alcohol abuse.
If not then there is no causal link.
If so then you would need to prove that you were not aware of the exclusion and it was unreasonable to expect you to have been aware at outset.
For drug/alcohol abuse that is going to be nigh on impossible to prove. For HIV/AIDS, if you already knew you had those conditions it would also be difficult to prove.0
