Breadmaker with normal shaped loaf?

Options
Evening everyone.
Just wondered if anyone can recommend a bread maker that makes a normal shaped loaf. I have a JML breadmaker that is about 8 years old, it makes the dough nicely, but doesn't bake brilliantly anymore, also the timer has been broken for about 3 years! So I have decided that the time has come to treat myself to a new one, but I would love one that makes a normal shaped loaf and not a really tall one like my current machine does. I also use it for jam and would like a fast bake programme if possible. Does anyone have one that will do all these things please?
Thanks for your help.

    Hi dm1465,

It depends what you mean by normal shaped. I have the Morphy Richards fastbake and as it's the only breadmaker I've ever owned the loaf seems normal to me. It is tall, but I just turn it on it's side to slice it and the bread is shaped like a normal sliced pan.

It also has a jam making function, which I haven't tried yet, and a fastbake function and is on offer at the moment from Morphy Richards at £29.55 (including p&p) from the Morphy Richards website.

Gosh I sound like a Morphy Richards employee trying to sell this to you....I'm not, I just love my machine! :D

I've got a Russell Hobbs (model unknown, bought seconhand on Ebay) that does a traditional shaped loaf. I've got a MR Fastbake in reserve, but I do prefer the RH shaped loaf!

Thanks very much both of you.
Pink-winged, I think what I mean about the loaf shape is that my old JML tends to produce loafs that are taller than they are long if you see what I mean. It makes great dough which if I then bake it in a tin in the oven produces a lovely loaf, but does not bake well, also in the machine the bread tends to rise too much and push the lid up!
Thanks for the advice, am going to have a look at Russell Hobbs and Morphy Richards.

I've just checked it out, it is still on offer, but is at £69.99 at Argos and Tesco, so it seems a brilliant bargain. Oooh don't know what to do now!

    Hi fizzle,

I think it probably will be, it's been that price for at least a month now and you will save money in the long run...I do, not only by baking the bread but also by not having to nip out to the shops for bread and buying something else as well!

I've just got back into my breadmaker again, I go through phases of using it loads, but I definitely need a new one, because I would love to use the timer function, and also mine takes 4 and a half hours to bake a loaf and because it isn't dark enough I then have to finish it off in the oven as well! Still I have definitely had my use out of it.

    Hi :)

I bought my MRFB about 6 weeks ago, and haven't bought a shop loaf in all that time :) So the initial outlay of £30 (which I too mulled over as a dfw) has been so worth it! At the weekend I made hamburger rolls and bagels in mine too (well, I made the dough) so it really has worked out well. I know it's quite a big outlay at first, but I really do think it's worth it if you decide you can afford it :)
