Hi, I have just had a parking ticket put on my car today. I have checked the details, and the registration number is incorrect. There is a tax disk number on the ticket which is correct.
The ticket is a PCN Number
What shall I do?
Is it a invalid ticket as the details are incorrect.
Thanks for any help :A

You can just ignore it and you are unlikely to hear any more.
If the reg no on the PCN is a 'live' number, then the innocent owner of that vehicle will receive the NTO and it then becomes their problem.
You can save them the aggravation of having to deal with a PCN that has nothing to do with them by writing to the council saying that you have received a PCN for a vehicle that you do not own nor have ever owned. At that point the council will realise their mistake and cancel the PCN and will not chase the other owner either0 -
Can you just confirm its a council penalty charge notice, and not a private parking company fake ticket. When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.

Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

Hi there, thanks for your help, much appreciated.
Yes it is a council pcn ticket not private.
Think I will write to them and let them know the car charged is not mine or has never been owned by myself.
What about the tax disk number?
Thanks for your help0 -
I wouldn't bother if I was you, they cannot contact you. This is one of those rare times you ignore a council PCN . Make sure you keep the ticket very safe though. When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.

No, don't do that, just wait and nothing should happen. Otherwise you writing to them ties up your name and address with this PCN which otherwise cannot happen (they can't look at photos and change it).
If you were sent a Notice to Owner in a month, suddenly with the right car reg on (which they are not allowed to do) you could have a field day complaining as they can't re-issue a dud PCN.
We have seen this scenario time and again and the advice is do nothing. You will hear nothing. But keep the PCN in a drawer just in case you need to prove it.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I disagree with the do nothing stance. I'm all for taking advantage of council !!!!-ups, but not at the expense of an innocent third party.
This happened to me in the past and although was eventually sorted it took time and aggravation I could have done without.0 -
Why ? They can positively say they were not there, also there's a chance the vehicle doesn't even exist. If there is contact I suggest not to give the name or address, something like this.
Dear Council
I notice that I received a penalty charge notice xxxxx on my vehicle and it has different registration number. Please be aware that you cannot reissue a PCN and you must now cancel this ticket as I'm not liable
Sincerely
