Steering lock won't unlock.

    Try this, put a can of wd 40 in the fridge wait until night when it is cool , open the doors let the car cool down, spray the wd40 from the fridge in to the barrel with the straw liberally and try again.
    If you can not wait, a tin tin of chewing gum remover and spray in to the barrel ensuring it does not drip on your legs.
    If the car has parked in the heat with the lock on, it will be stuck until it cools down.

    Depending on how handy you are:

    Remove the plastic cowling around the steering colum. May be screws, or may be little plastic buckles that flip apart.

    The lock is clamped around the steering column. To remove it you need to use a rechargeable drill to drill a small hole into the centre of the sheared off bolt, and then use an "easi-out" a small left hand threaded hardened steel screw to release the pin (they are only pinched up)
    Alternative if you have access, is to use your battery dremell to cut a slot across the bolthead and use a flat bladed screwdriver.

    With the bolts undone the lock assembly will remove.

    There will be a coil mounted around the keyhole for the immobiliser, this needs to be refitted to the car, with the key taped to it.
    The ignition switch will pull out of the lock when you unscrew a little screw.
    Now use a screwdriver in the centre of the switch to start the car and drive home (remember, the key must be by the immobiliser coil)

    Mend the lock (hah!) or buy a replacement. From vauxhall, you should get one with the same key number, so the old key will fit. (for about £60)

    Buy one off ebay, and you must remove the immobiliser chip from the key, and keep the old key (that fits the doors still) on the keyring, so when you start the car with the chipless key, the immobiliser can read the old key right next to it.

    (you cannot have two chipped keys on the same keyring as they interfere with each other)
    I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

    (except air quality and Medical Science ;))

    Most likely the key/barrel is worn. It's an '02 car? Insert scaff bar thru spokes in steering wheel, turn 30 degrees hard. Job done.

    I remember when people used to do that with a badly fitted crook lock.

    Isn't that going to be very difficult to do safely with the car close to a kerb?

    If it's the tyre pressing up against the kerb rather than the wheel, would letting a bit of air out of the tyre help to let the wheel turn a bit more?
