Buying a flat - do we need to refund portion of service charge?

We are buying a flat (completing in 2 weeks) and the current owner has paid this year's service charge of £1500 up front to end of December 2013. Do we need to take this into account when making final calculations of who owes who what? If I were the owner I might be thinking I was due a repayment of the remaining 5 months of the charge.

    In addition to the purchase price you will repay them your share of that prepaid ( estimated in advance) charge for July to Dec..

    Bear in mind that for the year ending Dec 2012 and for the current year the actual cost ( as these charges are estimates) may not yet be known and therefore the Solicitor will make sure that any refund or top up is apportioned between you by an agreement or retention.
    Stop! Think. Read the small print. Trust nothing and assume that it is your responsibility. That way it rarely goes wrong.
