    Xmas Saver!
    Don't panic.

The same happened to mine. It sounds like it may just be the keyboard. It was with mine. Take it to a repair shop and ask them to diagnose the problem, and phone you before they repair it.
Mine cost about £20 to mend.

By desperately do you mean just to get the paperwork off or you need the paperwork quickly?

If you are going to take to a shop try to get recommendations from friends etc. of a good local place.

What make and model of laptop is it?

Agree with OMO it could just be the keyboard but later corrosion may cause further problems.

Leave it off for now with battery removed.

At the moment the OP cannot get beyond entering a password which may even be a bios password before even getting to Windows.

So you didn't bother to keep a backup then? It's unlikely that liquid will have got into the hard drive, so even (worst case) if the mobo (or another key component) is wrecked and it won't boot, all you have to do is remove the hard drive, stick it in a USB caddy, connect to another computer and copy the data over.
If you're very lucky it'll just need a new keyboard. Unfortunately that 90 mins is probably when the damage was done, had you known and whipped the keyboard off and dried it out there and then, your survival chance would have been higher.
If the hard drive is affected, then you are looking at £400 upwards for professional data recovery.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
