Cheap Energy Comparisons
Options
Help me -- I'm new to this and may be doing something wrong, looking for comparisons. My EDF plan ends in a couple of months and I joined the Club to get info on rates I could switch to. Trouble is the software tells me I have the best rate available but doesn't seem to know that that info is pointless -- the rate is ending and new rates that are available are much higher. Why is the system comparing current (that is, old) rates with new rates? I can see no point and wonder if I'm not doing this right.

But it's quite correct in that your current (relatively cheap) rate is the cheapest available at present. Assuming it's one of the long term EDF fixes, then you will have to pay considerably more for any new tariff now, especially if you want another long term fix.
What it will show you are all the currently available tariffs for sign up. Why do you expect them to be competitive with a tariff you took out maybe 18m ago?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

If you are on the cheapest rate, and the deal does not end for a couple of months, then stay where you are
(That's why you have no notification there is a cheaper deal available elsewhere ... because there isn't)
Enjoy the summer (and your continuing cheap rates) and start looking after the first week in September0 -
I am in a similar position to OP but my deal ends at the end of this month & I was expecting the Club to suggest which would be the best tariff to change to, but again it has just said that I am on the cheapest one.
I was expecting the system to be more intuitive than is, forgetting how new it is! On a future update, perhaps something can be programmed in to recognise when our current deals finish & then notify us of the next best, in time to change?0 -

Because you are!
All suggested tariffs will be more expensive, but they're trying to show you the best currently available for your usage.
As a new customer you couldn't take out your current tariff because it isn't available any longer. The best one to go for is (obviously) the one with the smallest cost increase over your current one.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. But the OP is correct - he ought to be looking around now to find if there are better deals. Best deals are withdrawn all the time - and in a few months (the beginning of winter) is too late as they will be gone by then. It is entirely possible that a deal available today will be worth the cancellation charges.0
