Storing files on my PC

Options
Hi

I would like to store old photos and some saved Parks on Roller Coaster Tycoon to free up disc space on my computer.

How do I achieve this?

Is it an external hard drive?

If so what types would I be looking for?

Thanks.

A USB external hard drive would be suitable for what you're wanting, unless you're needing a lot of capacity the portable usb hard drives are probably a better choice as they're physically smaller and can be entirely powered off USB.

However I wouldn't recommend moving data from the internal drive to a single external drive unless you're prepared to lose that data, any valuable data should be on a minimum of two different physical locations so that if either fail you don't lose anything. If you're going to transfer data off your internal drive to free up space it must be to a minimum of two other locations so that could be a USB hard drive, USB memory stick or online storage system (if the data isn't too large for the latter two).

The stuff is on 'Local C disc'.

The amount needed for these are about 5gb

So what size stick and external hard drive, would you recommend?

If you have a DVD burner, just get a couple of blank DVDs for that sort of capacity. Get a pack of 10 from your local supermarket so that you can make duplicate copies before deleting them off your C: drive.
Or use something like SkyDrive for a second copy - plenty of free services available for that sort of capacity and you'll then have both a local copy on DVD plus in the "cloud".

Do you have a good internet connection? Cloud storage is an option. Ask if you would like more information.

is it really so full (and no other empty partitions or temp files that can be cleaned up) that you need to move them, and if you do, have you got another backup somewhere?

Note that a file held in only one place is at risk and will be lost at some point.

Thanks for all the replies, so far.

So, what size stick and hard - drive would you recommend?

It's not like I have thousands of photos to store or anything.

I just want to get rid of the 'low disk space' bubble that keeps appearing.

I've done the CC cleanup, too.

how big is the disk, how much free disk space have you got, have you got any empty partitions, what's using up the space?
