Hi
I've bought a packet of this:
but don't really know what to do with it?
Something baked with tomatoes and cheese? Bit boring. Anyone know what to do with it and what to serve with it.

I like Ebly with veg and a little meat or fish. It is very similar to barley except it cooks more quickly and is more expensive.
What I do is cook it in a large pan of boiling water. While that is happening I fry some onions and other veg -mushrooms, peppers, leeks, carrots and some bits of bacon or leftover meat. Just before the Ebly is cooked I chuck in some frozen peas and sweetcorn, drain and mix with the contents of the frying pan.
Instead of meat add smoked mackerel, tinned fish, ham or cheese after cooking. Sun-dried tomatoes and olives are good too.
It's a great one-pot dish, but I have to say barley works just as well and is so much cheaper;)0 -

Were any of the replies helpful BigBouncyBall? I see you've found time to complain about the thread being merged but not time to thank people who answered your question.0

It's just reappeared in my local Sainsbury's!
It's a staple for me as an alternative to pasta in minestrone - the veggie version is based on sliced leeks, peppers, carrots, sweated in olive oil with any other bits and pieces of leftover veggies (celery, mushrooms, broccoli, frozen peas, green beans, spinach etc - you get the picture!) with vegetable stock, gsrlic, herbs, pepper and/or chili.. Cook gently for a while, add tinned tomatoes or passata, the Ebly, cook a while more and finish with drained tinned chickpeas or kidney beans.
It's tasty, filling - and low-calorie!
For a non-veggie version, you can add chopped smoked bacon to the mixture.0 -
I haven't seen ebly for years, but I spotted it today in Sainsburys:j
I'm a very fussy vegetarian, and find myself eating the smae things again and again, so it was nice to find ebly again - it will make a nice change from rice!0 -
I bought some of this back from france with because it looked " interesting". There is one recipe on the packet but wondered what others do with it.0

You can get it in the UK. I bought some recently though I can't remember where, probably Waitrose. I just use it as an alternative to rice or bulgar wheat.0
