Area between kitchen worktop upstand & wall unit

I like the idea of painted walls between the worktop upstand & the wall units.
I need a practical kitchen so how do people keep this wall area clean, especially in food preparation areas/splash marks from sink etc.
The hob isn't a concern - on an island.
I had Dulux Endurance paint in my old house & you would end up with a faded patch from cleaning off marks.
Thanks

Ceramic tiles are always a good compromise but the grout is difficult to keep looking fresh. If you go for large format tiles then less grout to contend with.
More expensive is glass or stainless steel which can be fabricated to give a seamless surface if required. You can DIY by using Formica sheet (huge range of patterns/solid colours available) stuck to plywood or other flat material. No doubt there are many other materials you could use.
Personally i wouldn't have an upstand as I prefer a flat level surface between work surface and wall units. Certainly more choices than paint which IMO is not that practical in a working kitchen.0 -
The good thing with emulsion is that you can easily repaint once it gets a bit grubby and change the colour when you fancy it. I'd stick with it if it is what you like.0

Put a coat of Decorator's Varnish over the emulsion.
