    It's good to know now that you work for HSBC, so - looking at your other posts - it's easy to recommend to people to avoid applying for an HSBC current account in Branch. For the simple reason that they might come across you, and your peculiar decision making whether you personally "will allow" the applicant an account, and that a basic account "should be sufficient" for some. Or that you sell them a chargeable account even if they don't want/need one, but because it fits with your "the customer must be profitable" mantra.

    You don't say! I applied for a HSBC account when they were offering the 5% deal. I was accepted for the account with no extra identification required. 3 weeks later I was asked for a signature specimen, and then a week later a form to fill in for the phone banking. I was told I couldn't return the paperwork to a branch, it had to be a specific address, and they couldn't do anything in branch. 5 weeks after opening the account online I got fedup and went into branch to cancel it all. They processed that paperwork there and then (so why couldn't they have done the opening paperwork there and then - I was told I needed an appointment and they couldn't do Saturday, so hence a day off work and why I applied online).

    Here's the best bit: They then asked for my debit card and I said I didn't have one. They checked their computer (why not check before asking?) and then said, "Thats ok, It's not been ordered yet".

    At which point I thought, if this is what the customer service is like, you can stick your 5% current account.

    if it helps i opened the first direct bank account online at 11pm and got my account details and online banking that night. you could then get funds sent to that account and do the transfer to the landlords account within i would say 2/3 days if not the same day if all done at 10am on a week day.

    I can't remember the last time I gave a customer a fee-paying account, certainly not this year, it's not worth it for most people and I'll never recommend something detrimental to the customer. I understand you may have a poor opinion of me, and frankly I don't really care, I know I do the right things for my customers and I know they appreciate it. Your random speculation and word-twisting may convince people on this forum but I find most can make their own minds up.
