first aid kit reccomendations please!!

I have a very active almost 5 year old who seems to be unable to stay upright lol, his knee has just healed from one scrape and hes gone and scraped the same, just lower down and way worse than the last one. We've been out today and he slid on a bouncy castle making it oooze a bit then bleed, I got some cold wet tissue to clean it up but he was crying that it hurt.

I really think I need to take a mini first aid kit out with us from now on to cover all eventualities with him lol, have promised to try and get him some ben 10 plasters next time im shopping in town.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to what to put in it, im thinking plasters, antiseptic wipes, micropore tape, dressings, and am looking at the spray plasters too. Anything ive missed?? Never had this with my daughter lol

You can buy mini travel sized first aid kits I got one in Semi Chem for my sons Scout Camp it was about £4.00 and comes and has the basics, plasters, antiseptic wipes, a triangular bandage, gauze, micropore tape, safety pins, a gel wound pad, a burn dressing and it all comes in a plastic box about the size of a purse.

I have a first aid box which I keep in my car, as I also have a son who is a total liability and ends up in all kind of scrapes. In it I keep plasters in a variety of different shapes and sizes, scissors, tweezers, bandages, safety pins, sterile eye dressings, alcohol-free cleansing wipes, digital thermometer, skin rash cream such as calendula, cream or spray to relieve insect bites and stings, antiseptic cream, calpol, piriton, water for cleaning wounds and as an eye bath, disposable sterile gloves and hand sanitizer.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.
  • My capsule kit has plasters, antiseptic wipes, Rescue Remedy, lavender essential oil. This covers scratches/ cuts/ grazes plus insect bites, sunburn, itchy rashes and the shock of whatever's happened.

My extended kit contains micropore tape for when blisters seem likely, plus sun cream, lip balm, carrier bags, 4Head, hand cream and hand sanitizer. This in addition to keys/ purse/ phone/ shopping bags/ packed lunch/drinks/ snacks/ library books etc. We do carry a lot once we have children, don't we?!! :rotfl:

I find assorted shapes of plasters not so good because some just never seem to be needed or there aren't any bigger ones left. The water proof and plastiky one I don't think breath well enough and make for slow healing sweaty wounds.

Best to buy a roll of fairly wide fabric sticky plaster and a small pair of blunt nose scissors and just cut a piece of to suit the need.

Also just a small tube of Germolene Antiseptic Cream, you can get one that also contains a local anaesthetic and soon helps them forget their woes.

I buy the packs of white band aid - you just cut off what you need (I am allergic to the 'flesh colour plasticky one).
so in my portable first aid kit (the outside pocket of my handbag) I have about a foot of the bandaid. small scissors, some of those alcohol wipes and a handful of individual wet wipes swiped from restaurants. I also have a strip of paracetamol and a bite relief pen (am allergic to some insect bites). This has stood me in good stead for many many years - if this cant cope then a visit to A&E is needed.
