Hi all
My grandmother is 96 years young and might have to go into a care home. I have just been speaking to my dad and he has been told that people over 90 years of age can get extra money from somewhere, where from I do not know. Do any of you know about this and if you do please let me know.
Many Thanks

Not as far as I'm aware. I dealt with my Gran's benefits and they did not increase when she was over 90.
The winter fuel allowance is higher for people over 80:

Maybe that was what your Dad was thinking about? Have a look at the Age UK website, they're pretty helpful about benefits etc.0 -
thanks , I'm not sure what he is talking about, but his friend claimed some money for his mother being over 90, and it's not the winter fuel allowance. going have to speak to this person to find out, and when I do I will let you know0

Probably got extra money for someone who happened to be 90 but not because they were 90.
A new Pension Credit entitlement or an increase because capital had reduced, perhaps?
Maybe discretionary housing benefit?0 -
could have been AA0

I was going to say Attendance Allowance also. Am not aware of anything you get based on age. You should look on Age UK website for advice on care home funding as can be complicated!0

If she is entitled to Attendance Allowance and in receipt of Pension Credit, she may be entitled to what is known as the Extra Amount for Severe Disability Premium to be added to this.
This premium can be worth up to £59.50 per week, could this be what the friend received, it has nothing to do with age.
The only age addition I can think of is 25p yes twenty five pence age addition when you turn 80 to your state pension, which is then taken into account if you receive Pension Credit and this is adjusted accordingly.0 -
Probably Attendance Allowance, but this is awarded on care needs (which she presumably has if she is moving into a Care Home), not for being over 90.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
