Dodgy Plusnet Direct Debits

I recently changed direct debit details with Plusnet and their own site stated that the change was accepted and underway.
However they still attempted to take money from the old account which has lead to a charge.
Surely once a change has been made to a different account, when (by a team leaders own confirmation) there can only be a single direct debit on an account they are not authorised to take money from the old account.
However they still attempted to take money from the old account which has lead to a charge.

I changed to a different bank recently and plusnet took weeks to take the payment despite the new bank confirming the direct debit was set up and available and me telling plusnet this repeatedly. During these weeks they repeatedly told me the payment was overdue. I had cancelled the old banks direct debit so no payment was taken from there. New direct debits set up at the same time to other companies were in use very quickly. The problem was with plusnet.0

It depends when you changed it over. Direct Debit payments aren't claimed instantly - the company raises them a couple of days before the payment date, they are processed the day after and then they debit your account the day after that. And the mandates themselves can take a few days to set up too, and there's also Plusnet's own systems to contend with. So if you changed it over in the week prior to the payment date, it's entirely possible (indeed, should be expected) for it to have come out of the previous account. This wouldn't be Plusnet's fault, nor would it be your bank's.urs sinserly,
