Macman, I had the same thought. Who reads the small print? We should, I know. I suggested the very same thing today. Sneaky!
Most people do, when buying or selling a property...but since we don't know the sale price of the van, how can we comment?
Your T&C's should make it perfectly clear how the transfer fee is calculated. It's presumably either a fixed percentage or a scaled percentage based on the sale price, but probably with a minimum charge, All we can tell you is how the VAT is calculated-it's 20% of the transfer fee.
There is no 'inflation on a transfer fee-if it was 5% and now 8%, then they've upped it by 60%!. Just ask the how the calc was done, or post the invoice details. And check your contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop

OP stated that in 2007 the transfer charge was 5%. That's all we know. Pointless to speculate unless they supply the basic info (i.e. the sale price)No free lunch, and no free laptop

Macman: Sorry, the purchase was hurridly made as my little sis was in a jam and I jumped in to rescue. The financial loss is hers, not mine. But don't want to see a financial injustice. I do not have any of the original documents as the purchase was essentially hers, with my money. If she had any other documents, she would tell me, but I will ask.
Sale price was £11950
Less transfer of ownership £3360
Balance £8590
Thanks for your continued interest and support.0 -
So the VAT will be £672.
We cannot speculate on how the transfer charge is calculated, so ask your sister. No free lunch, and no free laptop
