Problems with SD card in Panasonic TZ25

When I put the card in the laptop it showed thumb nails of all photos except the three taken this morning. The laptop could not open the three.
I put the card back in the camera and it said card needed formatting, when put back in the laptop it said the same and I could not see the thumb nails I had seen earlier.
I presume if I format the card I will loose all my photos?
Is there any way of recovering the photos from this SD card?
Thanks,
Fortyfoot

Have you tried opening in picture manager, sounds like the sd card may have corrupted though so you might already have lost them0

If you format the card you will almost certainly lose the photos.
Try putting it back in the laptop and change the view of the drive to details rather than icons or thumbnails. You might just be able to see the filenames. If so, copy them off and if that succeeds format the card in the camera.
SD cards don't last forever though, so a replacement one would be a good idea as it could just give you the same problem in the future.
There probably are other ways to try to recover the data, but they get a bit more involved. Thanks, the two suggestions above have not worked, I cannot get as far as the thumb nails now.
I cannot find them in Picture Manager, it is only showing a few photos taken a long time ago.

Does sound like they're lost then.
If you have the cable to connect the camera to a PC, you could try putting the card in the camera, switching the camera on, as far as the format card? message and then connecting to the PC.

I wouldn't do anything else with the card apart from run data recovery software, it sounds like it's about to fail completely after which point the data would not be recoverable. I don't know if there's any good free tools of this type at the moment, the one I normally use for data recovery is File Scavenger but it's around $50.

I have reformatted and written off the photos.
Thanks for the help.
