Replacing Asbestos Garage with What?!

Our next project is a major one. We have an old single asbestos garage that needs to be replaced. I've got an approved contractor to do the demolition but we really have no idea what to replace it with.
The garage is, in effect, in the back garden. We can't use it as a garage as the side of the house is too narrow to get a car down and its currently full of bikes, gardening equipment etc so we were wondering whether to replace it with a large shed or another single garage.
Would I be correct in thinking that you get what you pay for in the world of wooden sheds (our last one from Homebase started to fall apart after a few years but was cheap)? or are the plastic or metal ones better.
We could replace it with another garage just in case narrow cars become popular but I've got no idea how much one would cost and whether a proper brick built garage would cost a lot more than a put it together yourself garage (I'm assuming it would but obviously if we ever want to sell the house it might be better to have a garage than a shed!).
The base that the current one is on is fine with no cracks so, hopefully, can be used again.
