Are there benefits to having an electric combi boiler instead of a gas?

That's it - I've had enough of the petty comments on this board - I'm off!! (Must be the weather - it's like listening to a load of pre-menstrual prima donna's sometimes on here). I try and provide a balanced view but like so many forums it's not worth the effort.0

Why not put your case rather than just delete your earlier posts, which makes any other's comments superfluous?
My point was not 'petty'. I simply asked you how an electric boiler could ever be as cheap to run as a gas boiler, unless consumption was zero.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
An electric boiler can't be as cheap to run as a gas boiler but my experience shows it's not as far away as others like to think. Meanwhile the op asked for benefits in running an electric boiler versus a gas one. Cost is one thing but I think I provided other benefits in my post numbered #10.0

Surely heating water overnight with Economy7 is the cheapest way to get hot water with electric?
Our tank uses about 2kWh a night at 6.8p/unit.
Not having gas, I don't know how competitve that is, but 13.6p for a whole tank of hot water seems pretty good value to me.0 -
Gas is still cheaper, around 5p per kWh. And that rate applies 24/7, not just for 7 night hours. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

But I was talking about the cheapest way to heat water electrically. Economy 7 has to be cheaper than an on demand electric boiler. And that rate applies 24/7, not just for 7 night hours.
Electric (Economy7 or not), is likely no good at all for a wet CH system.0 -
Yes, E7 is the cheapest method if gas is not available.
Your pre-heated E7 hot water is only available until the tank runs cold....then to use the boost you'll be paying the peak rate.
It would be insane to run a wet electric boiler on E7.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks for the discussion.
I don't have room for a hot water tank so will go with a new energy efficient gas boiler. any recommendations?0 -
This is a British forum. Much of our electricity is gas-fired rather than nuclear (although we were supposed to be cutting down). As such an increase in the cost of gas is not going to not affect both.
totally lost me, it was a question asked about a British prob ?That's it - I've had enough of the petty comments on this board - I'm off!! agree some people are so touchy, but deleted posts is just stupid because now no one knows what was said.
OP electric boilers are only really any use if the gas boiler flue is going to be an issue or mains gas/lpg isn't available.
having econ7 is cheaper electric at night but alot of times it means the day rate is more expensiveI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0
