tax credits plz help

hi me and my partner has earned less this year than last year. and we have been awared less this year? and they say i owe them £53.00 .
how can this be when im earning less . shouldnt this mean i shud get more tax credits?
i phoned them up and the man said its right as the computer does it.
can this possible be right it seems so strange?
would be greatful of any help many thanks

We had exactly the same thing this year, we earnt less as a family but they have also awarded us less. Like you said how on earth they come to that I have no idea. As far as I can make out the system is useless. It is meant to help those that are on a lower income and therefore are usually paid hourly not salaried but the whole system is pretty inflexible and suited to the set salaried paid. whoever set the system up obviously doesn't have kids and has never been in one of the lower income brackets to understand how it works.!!!:mad: :mad:0

i no its drivinng me mad. the gentlemen i spoke to on the phone said it right as its done by the computer. it can be right im getting less money than what is stated in the actal form aswell. i even asked him to add it up and it doesnt work out. and all he could say was it would take to much time to add to figures together. wish they could just double check what they are doing.0

go to your local tax office and give them an estimate on this years salary you may have better luck0
