Is this possible? I've just got a Kindle Fire because the screen on my old Kindle gave up the ghost, and I can't face re-downloading 1600 books one-by-one and having to put them into new folders. Can I use a USB to transfer my old Kindle contents to my PC hard drive and then drag + drop to my new one?

You don't need to transfer them they will be available on your new Kindle I had a similar experience when mine broke last October...

You mean all the books will automatically re-download and automatically go into folders? Happy days if so :)

If they were bought from Amazon pretty much AFAIK.

Otherwise for future use Calibre is a wonderful little app for organising and transfering ebook collections:)

Yes mine all downloaded, it took a while and some are still in the cloud, I have a Paperwhite 3g now. As Nilrem says Calibre is pretty good too for organising ebooks.

Well that's just annoying - Kindle Fire has no collections functionality. You can buy an app called Collections which apparently has its own issues, or you can use Calibre which sounds very complicated. I guess I'm going to have to get rid of stuff I was keeping 'just in case' and hope that Amazon develops a software upgrade in the future which allows collections. If I'd known I'd have gone for another model.

Just synch the new device with your Amazon account.

Calibre isn't normally very complicated - although I must admit I've not used it much on amazon sourced ebooks for a kindle (I'm still using an early Sony ereader that's lasting surprisingly well)
