Converting a single bank account to a joint bank account

I'm getting married next year (to someone on this board
) and we want to keep her bank account but just add a name to it. Does anyone know if this is possible or do you have to close the account and reopen it with 2 names on it?

I've done so before for a 1stDirect account, they just sent the form for the original account holder to fill in0

I have just done this with my partner. I didn't want to change my acct number as I have lots going in and out (well, not that much going in!). We're not married yet but it was a simple enough process with Lloyds TSB just popping in the branch to fill in a form. Nowadays they even put the first acct holder's name first. When my friend did it a few hundred years ago, they put her husband's name first which infuriated her.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

I did this with NatWest about 6 years ago with absolutely no problems - even though my Wife had only just arrived in the UK from Hong Kong and had no UK banking history (she had a HK-based HSBC account).0

Is there a credit check involved in adding someone to an account? as a joint holder??0

I just opened a joint account with LLOYDS TSB. I bank with TSB, but my partner bank with Natwest and she doesn't have a TSB Bank account. I planned add her name to my sole account but the branch staff advised me to open a new joint account and keep my sole account. She said that would increase the credit points of both of us...
It takes about 40 mins to open a joint account. If you have accounts with same bank, it could take less.0 -

You can add anyone to a sole account but you will need to both go in and the new person take their id and statements as if opening a new account. If they want a debit card and chequebook they will be credit scored, hence the reason for the statements.Too many children, too little time!!!0
