What is nornally said before these link games commence is that if you make a call it is your responsibility to ensure that the person who is holding the mike in your club hears you so that they can stop the game.
I've never known a link game be played where the mike is unmanned

browneyedbazzi is spot on; there should have been staff in the hall where the Bingo is being played regardless of the location of the (local) caller; once the player has raised the claim the game should have been stopped.
Link games are played across multiple sites and a link established between the clubs; one club will 'call' the game; the 'local' caller is not there to call the numbers but to monitor the players and raise a claim (at which point the game is stopped and the claims checked).
So wherever the game is being played then the checkers should be there, in case.
(and, for the record, I did work in Bingo for one of the major chains and have checked Link claims).
In Bingo (for anyone unfamiliar) claims must be prompt; if the next number is called then the claim is void. The onus is on the players to claim. Under these circumstances I would be complaining to the manager of the club. Hopefully the OPs son with have records of others who heard him claim who are prepared to vouch for him. Having re-read OPs post then maybe complaints to the local press?Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Oooooohhhh, thats a bit harsh!!
Before we start going into the why's and wherefore's of it all is this actually a 'debt'. All the legislation I've read covers money owed by a gambler to an institution of some description so this obviously doesn't fit this scenario. Can anyone find any legislation, or have any experience of a gambling establishment not honouring its 'bets'? This might be more helpful.
Just a thought....

OP - if the bingo hall has refused to escalate your dispute to an independent third party for arbitration then your next step should be to contact the Gambling Commission and complain to them about this failure. They (rather than proving a debt, small claims etc) should be your next port of call.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0
