cost to replace pipe between meter and boiler

Just sold our flat and have been informed by the new tenants that there's an issue with the boiler. Awaiting further info but it sounds like the pipe between the metre and the boiler isn't the right diameter. As a result the plumber needs to replace it. i agree with macman that it sounds dangerous, hence it needs fixing. Why not get quotes from 2 or 3 local gas safe engineers. Theres now way anybody can guess what size or price it will be tbh.
