Advice needed for having bought a car....

I need some advice on what to do next.

We traded in a car at a large local car supermarket (our 3rd car bought from there) Our new car is a C4 Grand Picasso and it comes with a months warranty if anything goes wrong ect they will fix it.

It has a tow bar fitted which was requested we found out by someone else whos finance fell through and they left it on. Having gone home and read through the manual on how everything works we have found a warning with the reverse parking sensors.

I called the dealer and they said to call Citroen and they can fix it. Having called Citroen they have said it should have had a detachable towbar fitted.

I called the dealer again who said that they would just take the towbar off! I said it having a towbar was a feature I wanted they said in that case you can return the car or have the towbar taken off!!

All I want is a detachable towbar put on. Do I have any rights to ask for that to be done?
Thank you in advance

I would say not to be honest - the car shouldn't have a bar as standard, so it's a 'bonus' that one is fitted.

I have fixed (non-detachable) towbars fitted to lots of cars with reverse sensors on, don't usually have a problem - is there definitely not something else causing the issue? Unless there is something weird and wonderful with that model of car.
And that my son, is how to waft a towel!

Have you tried the sensors? I bet they work properly anyway.

Just a lots of worries for nothing usually. Ive seen tons of fixed flange towbars on cars with reversing sensors.

They usually cause no issues at all. If you have a large bumper plate or side fitting electrical coupling then they may, But you just bend them back a touch and they are fine.

The way your post reads suggests that your new car is working fine, including the reversing sensors as it is but you have come across something in the owner’s manual which suggests that fitting a non detachable tow bar may cause a problem with the reversing sensors.

As the tow bar is already in place does it cause a problem or not?

If it does you need a remedy but if it doesn’t, it doesn’t and that is not going to suddenly change.

SO are the reversing sensors working fine?

I've had cars where the manual suggests the reversing sensors may not work properly with a towbar fitted. You then take pot luck with the towbar.

But you're in the happy position of having the towbar. If you get a solid beep from the reversing sensors when you put the car into reverse then you have the problem. If you don't and the sensors work properly then the risk didn't materialise, and your car is fine.

Some towbar fitters are the same. Ahh reversing sensors. If you want a fixed towbar that " MIGHT " be an issue.

They just have to warn you just in case. Mostly though it makes no difference.
