Contents insurance - when to start

Relative has just exchanged contracts to buy a leasehold flat.

Building is insured by freeholder, and r has a quote for contents insurance from a reputable insurer.

When should relative activate contents insurance - now or on completion?

There is no point having on tents over before you complete as the contents aren't yours to cover.

Do it from the date of completion.

Err.... let's see.... how valuable are the contents your relative currently has at the property?

If very valuable - insure them!

If he currenetly has no contents there and therefore the value is £0, insurance is unlikely to pay out much if, say, the place burns down.
