What should I do about an item that has not been delivered by the estimated delivery

Hi Folks

I bought an ipod through Amazon from an online retailer, and paid by credit card.. This was done on 24th June and the email confirmation stated an estimated delivery date 9th July. However, it still has not arrived.
I sent an email to the retailer (via Amazon website) on 10th July asking the reason for not receiving it, and I received a reply from them requesting that I wait for another week before they inquire with royal mail, since they confirm they have certification of posting it.
Is there anything I can do for the meantime? Can I claim any sort of compensation?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

For compensation, you will need to have suffered financial losses. Can you identify any of these ?

if they have already posted it, then you are at the mercy of Royal Mail.

And they usually require a week after posting before they start to investigate.

Unless it was sent with Special Delivery

Just to be clear though, having a certificate of posting doesn't stop the retailer owing you the money back if royal mail have lost the parcel. It would be the sellers problem.

Indeed, no-one's denied that :) Also, as it was paid via credit card, then that is another avenue if they are slow at refunding. However, I don't see that any compensation would be due, beyond a refund.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply you had :)
  • The delivery date was estimated, not guaranteed. I estimate you are not due any compensation and guarantee most will agree!

You bought on 24th June and it hasn't arrived! Start a case with Amazon immediately.

The only excuse he could have was he was awaiting stock which I presume he wasn't.

Oh and sending an ipod normal mail with a COP shows he is none to bright either.

Compensation for a late parcel? Geeze, god help the insurer you if you was ever in an RTA or the council if you ever tripped up a curb!

An estimate is just that - an estimate!! Could be sooner, could be later.

Unless you otherwise agreed that you required the item by a partcular date as part of the contract, then thay have done all they are obliged to at this stage. I think they legally have 30 days to fufill the order (unless otherwise agreed by both parties)?
