Bathroom: quote for complete refurbushment

No one actually knows the property other than the OP and the quoting tradesman
We have done 6th floor tenement bathrooms in Edinburgh, 400 rubble sacks removed where it had 3 layers to tiles, 1 plaster and 1 timber panelling.....2.5 skips later
Skips could only be done as a wait and load as no parking bays, rubbish carried down 120 steps, 150m to nearest loading bay!
Maybe the installer is offering a complete refit like we offer, walls back to brick, floor back to joists, ceiling back to rafters...Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
I am a plumber - and therefore do not do all aspects of bathroom installs myself however I have managed them on many occasions:
If you use individual tradesmen you are likely to save as the guy who 'does it all' likely subs it out and therefore you pay double!
LEJC - your bathroom looks fairly simple really. There is no reason why you could not have done similar for 50-60% of the total cost!
You do not need to spend £4000 on a bathroom like that - I would get no work at all if my prices where that high!!!!!
You even get numptys offering bathroom installs for £200!
Yes costs can escalate but bathrooms are like boilers - there are a lot a guys out there charging an arm and a leg for it!!!!
ROUGH GUESTIMATE:
- Tiling £300-£600 labour plus tiles ect
- Suite inc. basic taps and materials to fit - £300-£400
- Labour for a suite swap (ie: no extra work!) £400- £800
I have been generous here but this shows you that cheap jobs are possible!
This is between a grand and 2k in total although I have not included tiles and extras.
Still for me you would have to have a VERY expensive suite, a wetroom, or huge bathroom, or a LOT of extra work needed, to get even get near to the 4 grand mark!!!!!
i will respond to your comments...but not because I feel I have to justify the cost of my bathroom to you...I posted the pic purely to prove to the OP that for not much more than they have been quoted for waste and removal of rubbish etc we had the whole thing created.
the work involved in our bathroom was not just a straight swap, and your guestimate allows nothing for electrics so its very difficult nigh on impossible for you to make such sweeping statements on price because you did not see where we started from....including the building of one wall and plastering the walls and ceiling
i'm not going to comment on whether it could have been done cheaper suffice to say...the fixtures and fittings were to my choice and included in that price was the handmade bespoke door.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0
