One Call insurance

Recently took out a policy with this company they seemed to offer a good deal on insurance and breakdown cover, courtesy car etc. Almost a month after taking out the policy I changed cars, called them for a quote, had looked online and brought up a quote for £180.00 The girl on the phone said you are cancelling mid term so you will have to pay a £55 admin fee and £148.00 making my insurance well over £300.00 I said no I was not happy to pay that and wished to cancel, I had only paid £152 for the insurance in the first place. I am to be given a refund of £114.00 but I never downloaded the insurance which was all done online. My insurance finished this morning at 9am but the company is refusing to release my 9 years NCD until I have returned the documents! What don't they understand about not having the documents to send them they are online for god's sake, and how could I use them they are of no use to me. Are they just being difficult for the sake of it? I had to send copies of my NCD driving licence and counterpart but they have not offered to return this? Should have stuck with my old insurer and just coughed up more this year.

Some have an online termination you can click on.
Hastings said the same to me when i changed vehicles but said if i sent them a note saying it was online only and i didn't have a certificate to send them that would be fine.
Alternatively, forward them the link they sent you! What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
The problem is that whilst you still "have" a certificate of motor insurance they can be held as the RTA insurer for the vehicle even if the policy has been cancelled. Traditionally you had to return the certificate or make a written declaration that it had been lost/ destroyed etc (ie sign a form and return).
By the sounds of it not all of their processes have caught up with each other and their online documents. They may well still want a pen on paper declaration on the termination0 -
We recently decided not to renew with Diamond but they asked us to return insurance cert' (not current one as insurance still valid but the future one) asked in email, then sent us a letter asking to send it back in prepaid envelope (no envelope included strangely)
I just emailed them explaining that we had not received a hard copy of the new insurance certificate and therefore had nothing to return. The emailed back saying that it was fine, they could use my email as written evidence that I don't hold the certificate.
Im sure you could do the same, like you our documents are online so even if they had sent us one it would have been on the account not a hard copy. What's the point in sending back an electronic copy?Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)
Savings target June 18 - £22,281.99 / £25,0000
