Incorrect financial link/previous name on credit report

Quick (or maybe not so quick) question.

My friend has changed his name twice by deed poll.

Under his 'previous names' part of his credit file is a woman's name, and associated is over £4k of debt and defaults, which is severely affecting his credit rating. He has clicked on the 'report problem' link before, but nothing has happened.

Does anybody know what he can do to fix this?

Thank you.

Can he tell from his file which company first created the link (made this woman's name an alias of his?)

Alias information shows any other names that you have been known by. Companies can then also search these names when making a lending decision.

If there is a name recorded in your alias information which you have never been known by, then you should contact the company who has provided this record. They will correct any errors for you if they agree that the details are wrong. They should also inform all of the credit reference agencies (Experian, Equifax and Call Credit) about the change. Once you have contacted them, your details will usually take up to a month to be amended on your credit report.

There are 6 accounts in total, 3 with lloyds tsb, 1 with Hutchinson 3G, 1 with Vanquis, 1 with T-mobile, 4 in defaults. The earliest one is recorded in 1997, when he would have been 12!
They are all with same first name, but 3 different surnames, some Miss, Mrs and Ms.

So would he need to contact Vanquis, Lloyds TSB, TMobile and 3?

Having a look, there are a further 8 closed accounts also. It really looks like the two files have been melded together. Is it necessary to contact each company, or can he speak to Experian/Equifax/CallCredit?

    Update for anyone interested:

Spoke to Lloyds, who have given us generic address.
Spoke to QuickQuid, who were a nightmare, and gave us generic address.
Spoke to Vanquis, who are 'dealing with it internally within 5 working days' - so call back next week if I haven't heard anything.
Spoke to 3 - nightmare, told to go in store.
Spoke to T-mobile, who are calling back this evening.

Waiting game now, and writing letters I guess!
