I'm due to move on Monday and have paid letting agent the first month rent of 1280 and 1920 deposit but he is saying its not standard procedure to give me a reciept and they're records will reflect all payments? Can I insist on reciept?

Yes you can and should, signed and dated.
Or worst case a bank transfer with reference.0 -
You can insist on anything, but no one is obliged to give you a receipt.
It may be contained within your tenancy agreement.
If their is no record of it on your paperwork, then don't hand it over.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
Agree with above.
This is an agent with an office/'phone number/website??
Give him a cheque or bank transfer. Only cash if written receipt. If still unsure take a friend as witness (they need say nothing, only observe...).0 -

You'd have to be daft to hand over actual cash without receiving a receipt.0 -
Or write your own receipt, and get them to sign it.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0

This advice goes double when paying by cash. Otherwise without proof you paid it, you wont see that money again.
Worst case scenario, use your phone to video counting out the money and giving it to the agent, clearly saying "this money is for X". And back up the video.Back off man, I'm a scientist.
Daily Mail readers?
Can you make sense of the Daily Mail’s effort to classify every inanimate object into those that cause cancer and those that prevent it ?0 -
Tell them my standard procedure is: If you don't give me a receipt, you don't get paid.

I like the idea of the video. Post it on youtube, titled "The letting Agent who won't give a reciept"You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0
