credit rating fail.. my own fault i think

Trying to get a new phone deal which is better than the current one.
Stupidly I applied in my maiden name (divorced) which I am in the middle of transferring back to. So I have old bank accounts in my old name and new bank accounts in my maiden name. Signed up with new bank account and maiden name.
I signed up with a vodafone via CPWarehouse and failed the check after 3 days!
I dont owe a thing but the mortgage, never defaulted on anything ever , dont earn much but enough for a 17 a month contract. etc etc. However they did come back and ask if i was known as something else.
I am fairly sure the name thing is why I failed ( electoral roll under my married name) . But if there are multiple checks my credit rating goes down ( which seems a little unfair considering it should be based on actual credit/money issues!)
Do I apply to vodafone again (its a very good deal!) using all the "correct" info or do i not bother and wait for another good deal with a different operator? How long should I wait to make sure whatever failed checks they have done do not reduce my credit rating?
Thanks in advance

Hi lizloz,
I think you may be right.
If you'd like me to get this looked further could you email me with your details via the link in our profile here?
All you need to do is copy and paste the link into your web browser and it'll take you to the Contact us form on our website. To make sure it reaches me could you also quote the code WRT135 - MSE in the subject line?
Once sent you'll receive an automated reply with a reference number. Could you update the thread with this and I'll get back to you as soon as possible?
Kind regards,
Lee
