Hi all
I've heard lots of good things about this forum, so thought I'd ask my question on here and hope you'll be able to give me some feedback. Are there any kind of long-term(ish) fixed deposit or savings accounts out there which gives you very good interest for an amount of say £50,000? What are the best banks/accounts out there these days?
Thank you very much in advance.
Regards
Alice

There are indeed many fixed-rate savings accounts available and good rates of interest are certainly available.
Not sure how long-term you're looking for, but terms from 1 to 5 years are commonly available.
For example, Halifax offer various Fixed Rate Websaver accounts, which currently are paying 6.3% for 1 year, and 6.25% for 2-5 year terms. Details HERE
With Halifax, you have to first open a variable rate websaver account, put the money in that, then open the fixed-rate account with funds from the variable rate one. It's all pretty straightforward, though.0 -

Halifax are at the top for 3-5 years (as per Ray's link), better ones for 1-2 years.0

Derbyshire fixed rate bond, until 31/07/08. w.e.f. 07/06/07 @ 6.45%
From Moneyfacts, although the link on Moneyfacts page gives an error, probably because today is only 06/06/07Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
