Suggestions pls - buying a detached house with 3 self contained units

Hi
We are looking to buy a property which I know upfront has 3 self contained units with its own kitchen but the whole property is one large detached dwelling (but the house has two front entrances with one entrance leading to the attached granny annex containing one of the flats). There are 3 council tax bandings on the property.
We are having a First Direct building survey done next Monday but I fear that First Direct will decline the mortgage. If they do, does anyone know what my options are, ask the vendor to remove the kitchens? They are not letting it out but have other elderly relatives living there. We really want the property and wouldn't mind renting out part of the annex to help with the mortgage but that was not our original plan when looking to buy this big house.
Thanks.
