What insurance do you think is needed? Against any possible medical costs, certainly: does she need insurance for possessions as well?
She should ask her host family what kind of medical insurance they have, and enquire whether she could be added to their policy or take out similar cover for herself.0 -
Endsleigh are a student insurance company who do gap year insurance (which I think is what she needs). I have no idea how good it is, but I know that they're a reputable company that caters to students.
If she's in Spain, she will need an NIE number to work. She needs to go to the nearest police station with a foreigners’ department and take her passport, and two passport sized photographs too.0 -
Don't let her forget her EHIC in addition to any insurance she takes out.0

I have gone away for the summer while at Uni and I just got a longer term travel insurance, but if your daughter is away for the full year I would suggest looking into gap year travel to cover her whole time there.0
