1. When I found it difficult to find "idea" websites I started looking at estate agents photos of properties. The most expensive flats/houses can have some stunning interior design and may have made great use of space.

The best design books i've read and the set by Terence Conran, they really explain how to use space, materials, light etc. and aren't tied into any current trends

This is US based and geared towards "apartments" but if you don't have the large rooms with hight ceilings shown in design magazines then you can find some great ideas here. And all these rooms have been made by amateurs

I would agree with what most of you said here. It is indeed tough to get a relevant website or place that can keep you abreast with the recent developments regarding the interior decorations. It is also clear to me reading the comments of the others here that the issue is quite a headache. Moreover the prices do tend to fluctuate a lot I feel. Monetary wise if someone thinks to save something out of these decorations then I feel it wont be an easy ask. Overall it might look good once done but to have it done things do not look good at all.
