Life's too short to be bogged down by bills. Glide can take away the pain. Whether you rent with your mates or you let properties to tenants, Glide makes bills simple'.

    yeah...right.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the responses - really helpful.

We've managed to get the outstanding bill down to a still whopping £330 EACH. Still seems ridiculous.

We discovered that the first reading was incorrect, which is how we managed to get the bill down. As far as I can see our readings are now correct. I am still at a loss to see how we could have possibly racked up this bill. We didn't overuse on gas at all, just used a regular amount.

Does anybody have any wise words on what to do next? It's not right that we should each have to cough up this money when we cannot have possibly used that amount.

    Again, any help MUCH appreciated.

If the opening and closing readings are now correct, then it's simple enough to calculate from the Glide tariff what your bill should be, and whether it's now correct. If it is, you have no option but to pay up.
You don't seem to realise that by opting to let Glide 'take away the pain' rather than do the work yourselves, you pay a huge premium on your tariff.

    I do realise that.

I just simply cannot believe that we have managed to use that much gas over a year, but if others agree that it is possible then I guess it may be correct..? We didn't over do it at all, just your regular household amount (or so we all thought).

Its not actually the tariff that I am debating, it's whether or not we used that quantity of gas. Based on how often we used gas, the meter reads seem too high.

To give meaningful advice, you'd need to tell us what your actual (corrected) billed kWh consumption was over a year (or whatever your period or occupation) was.
Student houses are notorious for burning through energy without regard to the final bills, and because all the bedrooms tend to be heated for long periods.
The possibility you're alluding to is that the meter is faulty (very rare but not impossible). But since you are no longer in occupation, you cannot pursue that possibility.
