Morning,
Our springer pup is 13 wks old
Fed chudleys
He's not eating as much of it as I'd like, and I thinkis a little lean.
I now now he's out on walks and doing off lead he's burning its all off lol,but still
The breeder feeds chudleys and all m y dogs over 25 yrs have too and all done well so I'm loath to change the make I know
Do I try some junior mixed in or is he too young?
If I were to change which of this sort of range do you all prefere, we simply cannot go to burns, jwb etc but also will not go to bakers, pedigree etc as full of rubbish
Any advice most welcome
Any views on pets at home own brands
I've looked at wagg,skinners,beta,superdog etc

Skinners and Autarky both seem to be good ranges of food for the price bracket they're in. If he's on the lean side, I'd avoid Burns anyway - it's a low oil food that many dogs struggle to gain/maintain weight on.
Are you sure he's not just going through a bit of a scrawny growth spurt stage though?0 -
Thank you, I hope that's all it is but he is barely eating mall cup of food a day0

The heat can be an issue too, lots of dogs don't like to eat much when it's really hot!
I used to feed my Lenny on hills Natures best, on recommendation of the vet however upon doing some research most of the named brands are full of stuff that is of no real good to your dog. I've just switched him to Eden pet food. Now while he's never been a fussy eater and always ate his food, this stuff seems to vanish twice as fast, he loves it, stools are smaller (feeding the same amount) less smelly and his coat does seem a little smoother and more shiny!0 -
Thankyou everyone
I've bought a 2k bag of wainrights to try duck and rice as I thought it sounded nice lol
It was vertually same ingredients as jwb and full money back guarantee
I've also been wetting it as I thought his teeth might b starting to hurt? Anyway he's eating better! Still more of the chudley s than wainrights
Will see how he goes0 -
Does he just get dry kibble?
Wondering if you could try mixing some good quality wet in (wainwrights or nature diet trays spring to mind) - they're not too expensive and will keep for a couple of days in an air tight container in the fridge
Also, try soaking the kibble if you're not already doing thisGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Yes just kibble
I've just started soaking it
Don't really want to go the wet food route as other dog will want it lol and surely then he won't ever eat it without wet
I've also emailed some companies for samples
I will still try to get him back to chudley s0 -
My puppy has bakers
he loves it 0 -
Sorry but Bakers really isn't the best as it's got quite a lot of additives in - this is quite a good site for getting a feel for foods

Most brands are listed so it's a good starting point

Do you let him graze? If you do, stop.
My boy had a phase where he didn't eat as much as I would like him to, this is what we done:
Decide how many times a day you are feeding ( 2,3 or if very young it may be 4)
Offer the food at the times you want ( don't need to go by the clock) sit the bowl down infront of the dog, walk away, say nothing. Return 5-10 min later and if dog hasn't ate or has only ate a little, lift bowl and put away.
Offer again much later, at next feeding time, repeat as above.
If your dog is refusing to eat still keep lifting the bowl, don't allow him to decide when he eats, you decide. He might go a few days on very little, this is fine ( so long as he isn't already malnourished or something) eventually he will eat and by then will have learned that when the bowl goes down that is when he eats.
This is advice I was given, it worked on my dog and I have given the advice out and it has continued to work for others.0 -
Thank you I was letting him graze but have stopped it as the other dog kept eating it lol
But I do tend to put it down every time I pass the kitchen,so will lengthen the time inbetween0
