Tax Free UK Cars exported to France

3 Posts
Hi there,
Can somebody please help me - I am posted to France and am buying a tax-free car.
As its not an established place such as BFG or Cyprus, I am getting bamboozled by the HMRC regs and the like.
Has anybody bought a UK tax free car and exported to France?
I know I get the VX302 from the DVLA which I must hand in on export to prove i have left, it is the French side which is confusing.
Must I register the car in France to be tax free? What do I need to produce to show I am tax free to get a Customs Certificate C846A? Am I liable for tax in France or am I tax free as military/NATO forces on temporary posting?
Help!!! Or can someone tell me who can answer these questions please?

In short, HM Forces assigned to France do not repeat not receive tax free status, unless you are in one of the NATO HQs eg Lille or HRF Toulon, or assigned to the Embassy.
Check first before ordering otherwise you could get a nasty shock
Can you report back on your progress.
