  • It's in Eastern Europe between Romania and Ukraine.

Well, I dashed out to watch the game in a local pub (not having a TV), and a gentleman asked me what MOL stood for: I told him and said it was north-east of Bulgaria. I hope that was adequate..

Anyway... just a reminder to all of you that blackberries are great this year, and people are beginning to give away apples. Worcester Permains aren't cookers but the bucket load from my neighbour made a great A+B crumble a couple of days ago. I always pick from high on the bush to give the kids a chance.:-)

Sloes are also in abundance this year, and , although it'll cost a bit for the alcoholic ingedients, a small bottle of Sloe Gin is a great and thoughtful present for Christmas. (Very good for the singing voice, I am assured). My own, entirely personal tip is DO NOT use Lidl gin. I ended up using it for cleaning school whiteboards...
  • Good morning all, nobody told my brain it is Saturday so I was wide awake well before 7.

Last night's highlight was Mr 7ww hitting the corner shop just as they did their final reductions. £3.50 pack of sushi for 10p - don't mind if I do:T

Thanks for the reminder about sloes silverwhistle, must check out our local hedgerows. Today's main task is making some plum jam: our tree is absolutely overloaded and I'm determined not to waste any.

Have a great (if somewhat damp) weekend everyone.
  • Good Morning :hello:

Pippi - I'm assuming that you want to know why I started including the '3 things' in my post most days, not what actually motivates me to pick those particular things ...... sorry, it is obviously too early for pin sharp precision that is usual standard of Greying's deductive powers :p :rotfl::rotfl:(Greying pulling own leg there....)

Um, well, it is purely because, in the grand scheme of things and in relation to a lot of the problems that good folk on DFW/DFD boards are facing, my probs are pretty minor. And as it is all too easy for us humans to descend into a pity party over a chipped fingernail :), I decided that it was important to remember the 'good' or 'great' bits of each day to remain grounded and on task. And of course, the most interesting bit is, I have never really had a problem with coming up with those 3 things. Sure, there has been some repetition, but that is because it is worth repeating, or I continue to be grateful that folk have been kind to me/that I've seen wonderful things etc/that someone has 'shared their last rolo' with me etc etc

silverwhistle - thanks for popping by. Funnily enough, we may today be the recipient of some gifted apples.......... fingers crossed. Tip about the gin duly noted......:)

  • Good Morning (again) :hello:

Thanks for popping by 7 week wonder - don't be telling Pippi where your shop 'o the corner with reduced price sushi is! Pipster will be around to use the shopping budget wisely to grab such bounty :D

Oooh, plum jam...... what type of plum tree do you have? We bought some WI jam in Dorset - Victoria plum - it was divine. We returned the jar on our next visit (very green and in line with WI principles :D), but unfortunately, I think WI jam prices are beyond our reach now. I don't expect it to be given away, but I think their prices were a little too high for our budget.

Well, I've lots of 'little' tasks to accomplish today. Some money will be spent on stamps and some time in the queue at the post office :(

I'd better get 'list' writing as I need to make sure I'm baking stuff, buying stuff or packing stuff in the right order for our break. I've got a clear idea of a meal planner (which is entirely flexible, but I find it better to have the plan and the ingredients sorted - if spontaneous 'eating' opportunities occur, then all well and good, if they don't, we won't starve :D)

Dinner last night was meditteranean pizza and chips. So HM pizza base (basic bread dough 500g recipe), HM pizza topping sauce - passata, onion, celery, garlic, cooked to reduce and then put on top of dough, chopped black olives and red peppers with mixed herbs, 100g of cheese (grated finely) and topped with HG courgettes that were grilled first and a fine dusting of paprika sprinkled over the top. The 'chips' were from the parentals - variety 'Kestrel' - they made nice crispy chips, with a fluffy inside, unfortunately they didn't have a lot of potato 'taste' :(.

So, if you are wondering why the pizza looks burnt - it isn't - the fluorescent light does no favours, but the paprika on the cheese gives a much darker colour than if I'd not put it on. But it adds to the taste and paprika flavoured oil is lovely. And of course, the black specks are the chopped olive. I tend to use less cheese if I am making a pizza that is say, 'mushroom', 'olive' or whatever. If it is 'just' cheese and tomato, I go heavier on the cheese. The pizza was made in a tray 12" x 14" and gave 8 slices.

I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday. I'd better get up and at it.

Thank you for dropping in, reading and commenting. It is appreciated. A lot. By me :D

    See y'all later folks.

Thank you I asked because a few lovely folk I know do it as well and wondered if it had been mutually inspired.

I really like the philosophy behind it. When I joined MSE I was in a very bad place and was the bounty of such kindness and it got me on tracks - these days my lifes good and finances well on the mend - it makes me feel as if my minor challenges aren't in any order of consequence compared to those who struggle. So the resonance resounds. Thank you for sharing. I really appreciate it :A

    Reduced sushi????;)

I've got my loot in my hand - I don't suppose I'll get there in time and I'm working so really probably better dash.

And at the rate my daughter is consuming milk, I'll need the remainder of my money for shares in a cow, the dairy kind, not the nasty kind.

  • Evening all,

4 jars of plum jam are now sitting neatly lined up on the shelf next to 5 jars of blackberry from last weekend:) We've got a Victoria Plum and it is *so* overloaded with fruit this year. We got the tree about 10 years ago when we decided that rather than buy each other knick-knacks or something not particularly useful for our anniversary we would get something for the garden each year.

Well today's big news is that 2 weeks after deciding he needed to lose weight: Mr 7ww has lost his first 1/2 stone :T:T I'm really pleased for him and he is determined to keep going.

Hope everyone's day has gone ok and all those niggling tasks have got done. Tomorrow we're off to my friend's for her son's 4th birthday party. I'm holding out for jelly and icecream;)

Apparently its a 'mast' year - bumper crop being produced of seeds and berries - I was always told when this happened we where in for a hard winter.............natures way of providing and all that. Certainly holly rowan oak and hawthorn around here are laden but my damson had mast year last year and hasn't produced that much fruit this year - but what it has produced are very big - almost plum size than damson! Apples looking good too :)

GP, I love your diary, it gives me a real boost to read it. I look forward to reading everyday. I know I don't post everyday, life's a bit frenetic at the moment, but your diary is such a pleasure to read - thank you!

PS - I am truly sorry you don't post any more raunchy carrot pictures, but I suppose you can't have everything!
