I am not a huge fan of painting but the littlies room was looking a bit too loved, and I have softened my stance on pink nowadays so I will allow her some :rotfl: - I am a bit busy doing Gib's tax return but as soon as that is done I am all for coming and painting for you!! ; I am a fan of glossing the skirting etc :) it's the big boring walls I am not too keen on.

GP, today I went along to our local FB centre to volunteer. If I can't find paid work at least I can keep busy, I thought. Apparently, I have to fill in an application form, with 2 references, and it'll be 2015 before I'm cleared. I realise it's important to make sure people are trustworthy etc, but really, surely it shouldn't take that long?
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

Depends when in 2015 I guess.
There are only 35 days until 1 January
  • Good morning Greying

I hope all is well, I'll catch-up later

Before I forget, here is my uncle's pasta & beans "recipe" - apologies in advance for the meat in the photo (he doesn't normally do that - he must have known I wanted to take a photo for a vegetarian... *rolls eyes*)

Soak dried haricot beans overnight (he used 3 cups of beans)
    Rinse
Put in saucepan, cover with cold water (about an inch more water than beans), add 1 bay leaf and 1-2 cloves garlic (lightly crushed)
Bring to the boil, remove any scum and simmer until the beans are cooked
(At this stage, on this occasion, he brought a pork shank to the boil in a separate pan of water and then put it in with the beans)
Add 3-4 chopped tomatoes, chopped celery leaves/parsley, olive oil, season with S&P and leave to simmer for "a while" (sorry, not very helpful...)
Cook the pasta - he always uses small tube-y pasta (like Mr T's soup pasta - ditalini rigati)

  • Good Morning :hello:

I am having trouble keeping up with my own thread! :rotfl::rotfl:

maddiemay - I remember Antony WorrA11 Th0mpson advocating butter and a teaspoon of brown sugar to juzz up beans. I wanted to try these 'au naturel' so that I could see what they were like, but yep, a few spices or butter would be good next time :D And you and Lilty are SO right about brown sauce - how could I forget :doh:I've not bought other brands, on the hire purchase stuff. But when we went out for the overpriced chip butty at the pub a few weeks ago, they had sachets of brown sauce - just a catering brand I guess, and I have to say, I liked it. So it's possible you could get something 'different' but nice if you buy from somewhere else.

satchmo - I know what you're saying, but I'm with the charities on this one. If anything, form filling will stop folk who haven't given it any real thought from applying. I know that people think that they can just give up their Christmas Dinner time to 'go and help at a homeless shelter', not realising that homelessness is such a complex issue, and isn't just about getting a hot meal at Christmas. However my dear satchmo - I hope that you will proceed with your application, as I happen to think someone of your obvious calibre would be an absolute boon to the charity :D But that doesn't make form filling and waiting any the less frustrating ;)

Tonight's dinner will be a bash at Vegetarian Pho, although I'm likely to make so many ingredient substitutions, I'm not sure I'll be allowed to call it that!

    Aiming for a NSD today.

That documentary about 10yr olds in poverty is on at 10pm tonight, Ch5. I shall be taping it, as it is on for 1 hour.

Right, tail-feathers to get a shifting!

Thanks for popping by, reading and joining in. You're a super bunch :D

    See y'all later.
