  • Good Morning :hello:

    Lawks! You've been busy. I'm sorry, I only have time for a quick read and run this morning, so I'll catch up with you all later.

    I wanted to say that there is an amendment to my post regarding the absorption method of cooking rice. I was doing buckwheat in the same way last night, and realised my error! I will be doing rice again tonight, so will try to see if I can get some volumes to my 'eyeballing'. So please have another read through if you are thinking of doing rice in this way.

    For dinner last night, we had a broccoli dish - Broccoli with bulghar and walnuts, except I made it with buckwheat groats, toasted and then cooked by the absorption method. I used a couple of packets of YS'd tenderstem broccoli, from mrM. Half price at 45p ea. I also put red onion in my dish (not in the recipe) and I cut up the thicker parts of the broccoli stems and chopped them into the dish. Buckwheat is a lovely nutty 'grain' (actually a seed) I got this packet on hols (£1.40 for 500g) so we had memories to go with 'us tea' too! :D Pic here;

    Snagged my first NSD yesterday, and enjoyed a lovely walk with DP.

    Dinner this evening is a new curry and rice.

    Gotta dash.

    Thanks for popping by, reading and joining in - thanks for the smilie Upsidedown Bear :D

    See y'all later.

    Hi Greying, what's your weekly food budget for two veggie's? Do you mind sharing?

    I am slightly worrying that DD may not be eating enough. 60% of her menu is veggie, which doesn't surprise me as we both choose veggie options whenever eating out. She's cooking from scratch all the time and her weekly bill is around £10. Bear in mind I stocked her up with rice, pulses etc, chicken, stewing beef, which I apprciate reduces her overall spend.

    I just want to put my mind at rest as she's a slim young lady and having seen her this weekend, she's lost weight :eek: She does a lot physically due to her future career aspirations thus is physically very fit.

    Thanks, Tilly x

    Edited to add: she's making HM veg soup tonight ready for tomorrow, is having tortilla tonight, being fed on Wednesday and chicken and chorizo pasta on Thursday. Then away for the weekend with food provided :). I've spoken to her tonight as I was worrying. She is eating less than when at home but her view is our portions are way too large - still. I'm definitely feeling better :)

    Tilly - it may be worth getting your DD to track her calories in and calories out to make sure she's not running at a deficit. If she uses any kind of activity tracker it should be quite easy for her to do this for a month or so, and if she is running a deficit she can correct it and learn what the right portion sizes and proportions of carbs/protein/fat etc are for her.
