    worth re-reading every now and then.

    Wish I could take photos and head something to take photos with, I am so proud of my tea. Had a cooking session yesterday and as salad bits were getting low I made Mexican Rice salad (using frozen mixed veg - peas, carrots and green beans), Curried butter bean salad and some celery and an apple chopped up and thrown together in a dressing made of the last third of a ys tub of creme fraiche with a teaspoon of mayo for flavour and a slosh of apple juice to make it runny. Most of the creme fraiche was used to make 2 batches of quiches without pastry, as didn't want to bother defrosting a pint of milk (needed to clean the fridge as spaces are getting filled as soon as I clear them).

    So today used the second half of the apple/celery, some curried butter bean (enough left for another day and the 'onions' were the chopped up stalks of the ones which had gone to seed) and some of the rice (enough for 2 or 3 more meals. Very colouful, very tasty and mostly using scraps and oddments (my chunky minestrone is even weirder).

    Loving your food, as always.

    Good Evening :hello:

    Lawks JackieO - I wouldn't mind coming 94th in the quiz if I could chow down on a huge jacket spud for £2 in addition to all the fun and camaraderie :D I wonder if I started walking now, if I could be with you by next Tuesday :think: Hey, by the way, is your grandson still involved in TV productions? I was thinking of him last night when a list of 'runners' came up on the end credits of the JaymeeO prog on Channel 4 .......

    satchmo - 500g of cob nuts for free is not something to be sniffed at - they are fetching ridiculous amounts hereabouts.... still, I suppose they are probably hand-picked..... JackieO will be able to fill us in on that one :)

    oooooo little_sweetie - I would have been hopping mad too if I was treated with such indifference. Presumably it is an air-ambulance supplied little box? They seal it, so you can't bag up the change for them? Air ambulances are vital, I will always donate, but that attitude would really nark me. I mean, volunteer, or don't volunteer (or be a paid employee). If you don't like the work, don't do it! YAY to broccoli snaffling :T Glad it was a 'nationwide' thing, not just our branch. But does this mean it is to be discontinued or the price put up???? :(

    Dear girl, you never cease to amaze me, as there are both steps and a drawbridge on the approach up to Greying Towers........ :rotfl: *waves* and puts the kettle on, and sets the biccy tin out...........

    Well, today has definitely been a day of two halves. I *caught* grumpyitis for much of the day :( But I must admit, (thankfully) as I got my cooking mojo working in the kitchen this evening, all grumpiness began to dissipate, and as we *may* also have received a bit of positive news, then this evening is going to be positively tiggerish - although England are playing footy, so it could all go down hill......

    I grabbed a nsd - too grumpy to shop! :rotfl: (actually, more like I couldn't be bothered to lug anything home..... :))

    Dinner this evening, is an homage to workers in India, who have their midday meal in a 'Tiffin'. I'm afraid that I haven't one of those lovely stainless steel ones, well I've not got one at all actually..... But they apparently contain; rice, veg or meat curry, chappati or roti, dhal and something sweet. So, with those guidelines, I used the channa masala recipe from Good & Cheap (pg 93), I used up the last of the gifted runner beans and made a 'version' of a korma recipe using JaymeeO's Korma Paste Recipe (minus the ground almonds as I had none), I boiled up some rice (with a lemon hull in to flavour it :)) and made some 'fake naan' using the piadina recipe, with some black onion seeds thrown in. In my head, the resultant plate would look all fancy, like this;

    013_zpsaeabec14.jpg

    But in reality, our plates looked a lot more like this;

    017_zps078c6f9f.jpg

    And no, all that would not have fitted in my 'makeshift' tiffin box :rotfl:

    If you have a go at Leanne Brown's Channa Masala recipe, I would caution against using the smoked paprika, unless you really, really love the taste of it. I put it in, as it was in the recipe, but I must admit, I thought it a bit odd, and the resultant taste was........... mmm, not enhanced by its addition in my humble opinion. I just go0gled chana masala recipes and I couldn't find it listed as an ingredient in any other version........ Otherwise, it is a super simple and tasty dish :)

    I must admit, this plate was fun to devise (although not authentic), let me try Leanne's recipe, used up some lovely gifted produce whilst it was still fresh, and fitted the *frugal* category, whilst at the same time being filling and quite nice to look at as you were eating :)

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    that my grump shifted - I really dislike myself when I am grumpy...... :rotfl:

    that we may be moving forward..... - don't jinx it Greying, don't jinx it........ ;)

    for my overly vivid and graphic imagination - I could just see Pipster on those roller skates........ :rotfl:

    Thank you, as ever for taking the time to drop into my diary, whichever mode of transport you chose...... kudos for environmentally-friendly methods though ;):rotfl:

    See y'all later.

    EDIT: mothernerd - we are all coming round to yours tomorrow - expect us for 6pm and be prepared to cater for ooooo, a few dozen???? :rotfl:Your dishes sound lush :D I'd like to see pics :D

    I am about 40 miles south of the 'smoke' left hand side, near the River Medway:rotfl::rotfl:great night out, and smashing grub as well :D what's not to like :beer:
    Danny still is in tv production, his last contract was with 'Pointless' where he is now a researcher/assistant producer. He met his lovely girlfriend there ,Hayley and they are so well matched .His previous GF broke his heart when she dumped him as she couldn't handle the hours he worked.dreadful time for us all as they had been together since about 15 and he adored her,still her loss and Hayley's gain;)

    I believe Kent cob nuts have high expence's owing to the picking. Even here in Kent they are expensive,but unless like me, you know where some are in the local country park and let a spare grandson loose to climb the trees for you :D:)
  • Hello there Greying and chums! Just checking in quickly to say hello and how gorgeous the tiffin looked. I will have another look at Leanne's booklet! It's my third day at school today, still no students, and so far so very good! The test will come tomorrow when I teach my first three lesson.... Eek!!

    Will return later to see you all. Have lovely days and I open the grumpyitis stays away!
    With family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!

    Morning all!

    Hey *Satchmo* thanks for the recipe tip for the cobnuts - I have a few to use up!

    Scored a free meal at work last night! We went to a steak house... but of course, im off steak! I had stuffed mushrooms, salmon and chocolate cake. Very nice. Pity it wasn't a spend-free night as I needed to take a train back as the buses had finished! :rotfl:

    Love your tiffin box meal, GP! I recently discovered how easy chapattis are to make, do I had turmeric rice, chappatis, dhal and raita for dinner on Tuesday, and my fella didn't miss the meat at all! :-) He's had 2 veggie meals and all veggie lunches and we're coping well. :-)
    Keep reading books!

    Yes, it was their own, sealed-by-them box. Now, on last emptying it was £47 but that was because I had managed to do a raffle at one of our Residents Association meetings. Recently we have had no meetings so I couldn't do another one :( sigh.... If I get the same reception next time I think I'll just give up...

    re the broccoli: I hope it was just a clear out not a discontinuation because even at full price of £1 it's not a bad price.

    JackieO I LOVE quizzes and am so envious of yours! Do you want any company on your walk GP??:rotfl: I watch Pointless on TV too and will always think of you and your son now when I watch it :)

    Hope your day is splendid GP ( the tiffin looked very tasty) What's for grub tonight?.....

  • ho hum, another day, another dollar-perhaps.
    DGS off to school looking very grown up in his new uniform, and my visit to York with fave cous. all booked and paid for. Thank you Premi*r Inn for your £25 room sale.
    Had the remainder of the 'very spicy hotpot' for tea last night, very yum, and very frugal, ys'd meat, onion and carrot, courtesy of MrM, potatoes and peppers home grown and glug of red wine from an old bottle whose contents were frozen in ice cubes, oh, and fresh parsley and basil from garden too.Today will be parsnip and carrot chunky soup and scone cobbler topping, using up veg, and AF flour, a egg which is looking reproachfully at me, wondering why it was left, and milk which is just on 'the turn', Greying you keep inspiring me, go you.
