Am starting to feel a tad inadaquate on this thread.
You all seem so much better at practical things and cooking than me
    GL~That pizza just looked lush.

Now Beanie - you are my No.1 supporter, cheerleader and advocate on this thread. You have been with me from the get-go and you are held in very high esteem by ME :D

There are a ton of things that I don't know how to do, know about and would probably make a hash of if I attempted :rotfl: I like cooking and I'll have a bash at it - even if I muss up :D

Even today, I have learnt something more about chuckens over on muddywhitechicken's thread :D thanks to Habibiboo who knows heaps about chucken husbandry :D

So, I DO NOT wish to read the word 'inadequate' again. You're super Beanie, and you're 'our' super Beanie - and don't you forget it! Otherwise I'll jump on a mega bus and hoof it up to your town and force feed ya me food...... are ya scared yet????? :D:D:D :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I am no goddess either LOL, but I love baking, making jams, jellies and chutneys, rubbish at pickles and quake in my shoes at the thought of preparing a meal for anyone other than OH and myself:eek:

I can knit fairly well from a pattern, but cannot sew to save my life, have to pay someone to shorten things:(, cannot sing, draw, paint or play music either (insert very very sad face here).

I am pretty old (no not pretty and old:rotfl:) and was fortunate to be taught how to cook properly at school, also we were all very much rural poor where I grew up and Gran, Mum and all their friends had no money to buy anything other than the basics, all the dads grew food in the garden too.

Beanielou and upside down bear, I bet there are dozens of things that you do well that I can't:A

    Thanks everyone :)

    The risotto is dead easy.
I use a non stick pot.
Grate courgette.May also add moungtrout or any other green veg.Often frozen peas.
    Brown slightly in frylight.
Then add stock~i use whatever stock cubes I have to hand.
Chuck in risotto rice & cook for about 25 mins.
I dont weigh anything so just judge quantities.

Courgette rissotto sounds yummy, risotto of some kind is a regular for me when OH not around (he is not a fan).
I still have my Nigella book, her recipe "Lily's Scones" is the best I have ever found (it is available on-line), and I make several variations.

On the subject of courgettes and rice, there is a recipe in there for courgette and chick pea filo pie, I have a small appetite and it looks very filling, perhaps I should try small pies and half quantities.

    Good Morning :hello:

Arrgghh, I have been awake since 1am :( Is it any coincidence that we are 'waiting on trades' and my insomnia returns........*sigh*

Anyway, I've the last day of our hols ahead of me, so I'd best buck up and cheer up :D

maddiemay - I remember the scones recipe picture in HTBADG. Am I imaging it, or does she use cream of tar-tar in them?

    Dinner last night was Loobia Polo, the Persian rice and beans dish (the authentic version does contain meat too). I've made it before, but I haven't for a while, and I'll be honest, I'd forgotten how easy, yet tasty it is :D I just tend to make it on the stove top, combining the sauce and the rice, but it is supposed to be made much more like a biriyani, and it is good if the rice catches the bottom of the pan to crisp and caramelise...... I'm afraid i'm not that adventurous, and I'll hide behind the corporate speak of, 'thinking of my washer-upper'..... :rotfl: I did cheat a little last night, as I used ras-el-hanout spice blend, as I had some, and I didn't want to make up the adiveh spice blend (minus the rose petals). It actually has less ingredients than the ras-el-hanout, but they are broadly similar in their inclusion of the 'sweet' spices. I topped it with a 1 egg omelette - and yes, the one in the pic does look very ropey (tasted ok though :D), the better omelette was on the other plate, but it decided it didn't want to 'fold' nicely for it's pic to be taken...... so I went with this plate :D On top of the omelette are a few of the teeny tomatoes that were struggling on, on the plants I grew, made into a salsa with coriander, oil and a little red onion diced up. Pic here;

    180_zpsf67c4e4c.jpg

I think I have linked to THIS recipe before, as it has a recipe for the adiveh spice too.

I pondering whether to bother growing tomatoes in future. I have had some regular sized ones on the plant and there are about 3 'larger' yellow ones currently ripening, but all in all, it's been a disappointing crop. I've fed and watered and the weather has been brill. Wonder what I did wrong?

DP will be about just now, so I'll go and get the kettle on and get the day started :D

I could snag a NSD today, depends on what chores we elect to do really. There should be no need to spend, so I'll try my best :D And y'all know what's coming for dinner! :rotfl::D:D

Thanks, as ever, for popping in, reading and joining in. Mucho appreciated :D

    See y'all later.

Hooray, the sun is shining here, need to get planting the things I bought last week for some autumn colour.

Yes Greying, bicarb, cream of tartar, and 2/3 butter to 1/3 Trex, just the two of us here, so usually make the full batch, split into cheese for me and fruit for OH and freeze most of them for later.

The Loobia Polo looks delicious, I have never tried Persian spiced food, so perhaps time to get adventurous.

Have a great Sunday everyone, I do wish that autumn was not showing it's pretty face just yet though:(

That pic *does* look delicious - lots of colour, lots of different texture, very yummy :)

Another one who's so not terribly capable - I can do about 70% of lots of things - so none of it looks (or tastes) great - its all just about passable :rotfl:DIY, cooking, cleaning, you name it. I'm terrible at finishing things off, anything, which is why my current work of "catching up" has gone on for so many months :rotfl: at the moment, its about cleaning flowerpots - and I've lost count, its around 40, which should tell you something :D

Hope you're having a good day, GP :)
